Executive Director

Steve Christensen

Steve has been executive director since 1989. His vision of recreation is diversity. His goal is to expand recreational opportunities in every conceivable way. This goal has led to unique partnerships with Carbon School District and the College of Eastern Utah. Programs Steve has started include Pro Care: After School Child Care and The Lighthouse Life & Learning Center. These programs expanded dramatically and are now operated by Carbon School District. He was instrumental in getting funding for the Helper River Parkway and the Spring Canyon Parkway.  Involvement with the College of Eastern Utah has resulted in an outdoor adventure recreation program that is unique in the country.

In 1999 Steve was honored as the “Total Citizen” by the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce. In 2001 Steve was honored as the “Outstanding Professional” by the Utah Recreation and Parks Association. In 2005 Steve received the “Innovation of the Year” award by the Utah Recreation and Parks Association for his work in creating the partnership between Carbon Recreation and the College of Eastern Utah.

Steve has served as president of the Utah Guide and Outfitters Association, the Utah Recreation and Parks Association, and the Central Utah Recreation and Parks Association.  Steve currently serves on the Utah Boating Advisory Council and the Strategic Planning Committee for the boating division of Utah State Parks.

Assistant Director

Frank R. Ori Jr.

Assistant Director Frank Ori has been an employee of the recreation department in some capacity since 1993.  He is a native of Carbon County, and  a 1992 graduate of Carbon High School.  Frank received his BA degree in Mass Communications with an emphasis in public relations and broadcasting in 1998 from Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colorado.  He became the assistant director in October of 2000.

Frank is very involved in community events - he likes to make sure he has his hands in a little of everything.  He broadcasts Carbon High School football and basketball games along with College of Eastern Utah basketball games on the radio.  His interests include baseball, basketball, football, most movies, video games, and being able to recite old episodes of "Friends" on command.

In October of 2006 Frank was honored by the Price City Council, awarding him with the Visionary Service Leader Award for his dedication for excellence and his ongoing efforts to help make Price City and Carbon County a better place to live.

Recreation Program Director

Alaena Fryer

Alaena Fryer has been an employee of the recreation department since October of 2006.  In February 2008 she was hired on full time as a Recreation Program Director.  She was born and raised in Carbon County.  Alaena received an Associate of Science degree from the College of Eastern Utah, then continued her education at Utah State University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Parks and Recreation with a minor in Recreation Resource Management.

Alaena loves to work with the youth in Carbon County, especially helping them excel in sports.  Some of her interests are reading, being with family and friends, and playing (or watching) pretty much any sport-though her favorite to play is volleyball followed by baseball/softball.  She also loves being in the outdoors: camping, hiking, river rafting, rapelling, horseback riding, etc.  She is excited to be a full time addition to Carbon Rec and hopes to add her knowledge and experience to the programs.  ___________________________________________________________________________________
